World War I wristwatch shrapnel guard

How incredibly elegant! As every B+ student of American history knows, World War I ushered in the wearing of wristwatches rather than pocket watches for American men. There have been many articles and assertions lately that the wristwatch is on the way out due to reliance on Blackberrys, cell phones, blahblahblah for the time, but I feel absolutely naked without a wristwatch.
