teen love, 1956

Charlie Hoag and Ginny Nyvall talking on the phone- Life Magazine, 1956 article about teenage telephone habits.
There’s something about this photo series that just moves me. I love their style and I just dig how this series captures first love blooming over the telephone. It’s more than a little sad to think that this is phenomenon is vanishing and being replaced by IMing, texting, and multitasking cellphone conversations. Different means to the same end, I guess- connecting with the opposite sex for the first time- but I’m skeptical that these new means are an improvement. There’s just something about escaping to the sanctity of your own room with your love’s voice on the other end of the line. Is there anything better in the world than first love?
